Em Setembro de 2014, o Instituto Confúcio da Universidade do Minho organizou um curso de verão na China. Os alunos do CLIP, e alguns dos alunos mais novos, tiveram a oportunidade de ir a Tianjin e a Beijng, numa viagem apoiada pelo Hanban. Partimos com muitas expectativas, pois para quase todos era a primeira experiência com o Oriente e por isso havia alguma ansiedade misturada com curiosidade.
Fomos recebidos na Universidade de Nankai, cidade de Tianjin. Esta Universidade preparou duas turmas e respetivos professores para que os alunos frequentassem o grupo adequado ao seu nível. De manhã os alunos tinham quatro horas de aulas de mandarim, depois de almoço o programa era cultural . O programa cultural consistia em aulas ou visitas programadas que permitiram que os alunos melhor compreendessem esta cultura, assim como o contacto direto com a realidade da China.
Em Tianjin visitamo a 5ª avenida (五大道 Wǔ dàdào) local de interesse histórico, onde podemos constatar a influência ocidental na cidade . 五大道 são zonas residenciais, que durante o período da II guerra mundial , foram ocupadas por outros países. No dia da nossa visita, na China celebrou-se o festival de Outuno (中秋节 Zhōngqiū jié) . Nesse dia, os chineses tem por tradição comer o bolo da lua (月饼 Yuèbǐng). Na rua encontramos uma competição, premiava-se quem fosse capaz de comer mais rápido um bolo da lua. Alguns dos nossos alunos quiseram participar, foi um momento hilariante. Não ganharam mais tiveram recompensa pela ousadia de enfrentar os chineses nesta brincadeira.
Uma das visitas mais apreciadas em Tianjin foi a visita a uma escola secundária.
“One of the best experiences we had during our trip to China was going and socializing with the students in nº 9 Tianjin High School. We were first very well received by all of them, then we went into their art room and made some Chinese sculptures, after that, we had a Kung Fu lesson, and as a request made by us we went to play Ping-Pong and football with them, surprisingly we beat them in both. In everything we did we were accompanied by the students and what we noticed was that they were very friendly and kind. It was a very good experience. Mário Carreira was the one who received the prize of the best sculpture. The score of the football match ended up 2-0 for the Portuguese. The first goal was scored by Afonso Sousa and the second one by Diogo Rocha with Afonso´s magnificent assist.”

Terminado o período de estudo em Tianjin, ainda nos restavam dois dias de Lazer em Beijing. Em Beijing visitamos locais históricos como a grande muralha, o palacio de Verão, cidade proibida e uma Hutong.
A visita a uma hutong ( 胡同 Hútòng) , permitiu-nos compreender a organização da vida quotidiana na família. O nosso anfitrião, dono de uma casa tipica composta por quatro partes organizadas em quadrado (四合院 Sìhéyuàn), apresentou-nos o local e esclareceu-nos acerca da organização da casa e a influência na vida em familia. Para além disso , podemos ver com os nossos olhos as condições de uma hutong montados numa espécie de tuc-tuc (人力三轮车Rénlì sānlúnchē). Por último,tivemos ainda oportunidade de visitar os pandas no jardim Zoologico.
“The Great Wall of China was one of the best visits we had. I was completely awestruck by the sheer size of it. I knew it was going to be big, but seeing it in person is another story altogether. The view from up there was both terrifying and amazing, it was beautiful, yet it reminded me of how high up I was, and it gave me the feeling of staring into an abyss, terrified about falling, yet contemplating about how mysterious it is. The terror both frightened me and excited me. It was truly an experience I will never forget, and I hope I will be able to repeat it.”

Os alunos tiveram também oportunidade de apreciar os petiscos chineses, nem sempre do agrado de todos, mas a presença de Mc Donald e Pizza Hut na China ajudou nos dias mais dificeis. De todos os pratos chineses, o pato a pequim (北京烤鸭 Běijīng kǎoyā) foi aquele que a todos agradou.
"Going to China was the most amazing experience we ever had. It was extremely helpful for our Chinese Language development. Beyond the difficult communication between us and the Chinese people, we were able to learn more on those 15 days than in most of our Mandarin classes ever! Our teachers were absolutely incredible and that is one of the things that we miss more of China. We made a lot of friends and we learnt a lot about the Chinese Culture, such as paper cutting, Peking Opera and Chinese calligraphy. People in Peking are very welcoming, and in some cases we felt like celebrities because they wanted to take pictures with us. All of us left China wishing to return, as it left such a profound mark on us!"
